the ballistic boombox, river rocker, tide rider or summit speaker. call it what you will. we'll call it awesome.

music.

Whether it's the song that defined your summer or the melody that reminds you of a loved one, music is an integral part of our lives, weaving its way into the fabric of our memories. It's the secret sauce that levels up any adventure.

From the crackle of vinyl to the crisp sound of a CD, music has evolved alongside technology, shaping the way we experience it. Remember lugging around a boombox or rocking out with a Walkman? Now, our phones hold entire libraries of music, allowing us to curate the perfect soundtrack for every occasion. While convenient, let's be real, phone speakers often deliver audio that sounds like it's coming from a tin can. The same is true for most bluetooth speakers – definitely not the best way to appreciate a killer guitar solo or a booming bass line.

Forget those tinny speakers! A killer bluetooth boombox is the ultimate adventure buddy. Suddenly, that chill campsite vibe is amplified with perfectly curated tunes, turning a simple gathering into an epic dance party under the stars. That scenic kayak trip? Now it's a floating concert, with the rhythm of the music matching the rhythm of your paddles. A good system doesn't just play music, it creates the atmosphere, turning ordinary moments into legendary stories and forging unforgettable memories that are forever linked to those booming bass lines and soaring melodies.

the story.

The dream was simple: tunes with us, wherever we roamed.

Our first attempts were cooler stereos...and let's just say they lacked finesse. We're talking massive coolers, clunky speakers, and enough wiring to make a NASA engineer sweat. They were more "portable" boat anchor than "adventure-ready."

From that first farm-tested prototype, we've gone full boombox bonanza!

Now we're cranking out these rugged sound machines in all shapes and sizes, each one a unique blend of durability and killer audio. Some are compact and lightweight for backpacking trips, others are beefy and powerful enough to fuel a beach party. We're talking customizable features too – solar charging, integrated lights, even dry storage compartments for your phone or keys.

Then, the game changed.

We discovered the magic of Pelican cases – practically indestructible – and paired them with high-end marine speakers and amps that could handle anything we threw at them. Suddenly, we were building serious adventure boom boxes.

Our very first creation? It powered the soundtrack to a volunteer farm, where we grow crops for local food pantries, all the while jammin' out to our favorite tunes. We named it the Crop Duster. It was the perfect blend of hard work, good vibes, and seriously awesome sound.

But the real magic? The sound.

These aren't your average portable speakers. We're obsessed with bass, so we've engineered these boomboxes to deliver deep, resonant lows that you can feel in your chest. Whether you're shredding on a mountain bike trail or chilling by the campfire, these adventure-ready sound systems bring the music to life, turning every adventure into an epic soundtrack.

you like the feel i bring.

We lived with our boomboxes in the 80's. We even built a few cooler stereos in the early 2000's. But our ballistic boombox is our modern take anywhere upgrade and all-time favorite.

Camping, festivals, canoe trips, snowboarding or just chillaxing by the fire pit. Music is a part of life and our adventures and the ballistic boombox is the perfect adventure companion.

This is a fairly easy DIY project and built for abuse. We have plans for 3 different sizes and lots of options (including solar). You can now take your favorite tunes anywhere your adventures take you. Don't leave home without it.

Choosing the parts for this project is crucial – one wrong move and we'll be chasing smoke signals instead of sweet, sweet sound.

people get ready

taking it easy. got to take it slow.

We know some are leaders, others just prefer to follow. So we're offering our quick build guidance via the WWCD (what would chillantix do) recos.

WWCD guidance errors on the side of simplicity, ruggedness and waterproofery. Less is more and the cool part is that you can always add on in the future.

The WWCD recos are the design on our small yellow LPC chillantix that you see all over this site. [LPC is short for lemon pound cake - because you have to have some music when you are repairing your gate & door] The only difference is WWCD forgoes the external power switch featured on the original LPC.

You didn’t come this far to stop.
